Wednesday 13 March Administered Chloroform to a little girl aged 7 whilst Mr. Fergusson operated on a very bad hare-lip with the septum of the nose standing out from the end of the organ. Was readily made insensible and the insensibility was kept up during the operation by means of chloroform on a sponge. Towards the end of the operation there was a loud gurgling in the throat 1184) and larynx, evidently from blood which had entered the glottis. As the 184 insensibility was allowed to subside this blood was coughed into the mouth and swallowed. No sequelae of any kind. 29th. Union has taken place, and the face is greatly improved. Mr. Root.
